Interagency Coordination

The San Jacinto College Police Department (SJCPD) values strong, professional partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Effective communication and coordination among law enforcement partners help promote officer safety, community safety, operational awareness, and a unified response to incidents occurring on College property.

While SJCPD encourages all law enforcement agencies to coordinate and collaborate with the Department regarding law enforcement activity on San Jacinto College property, we recognize that circumstances may arise in which advance coordination is not always possible.

Coordination expectations

When an outside law enforcement agency is conducting activity on College property, SJCPD encourages timely communication and coordination whenever reasonably possible. This should include:

  1. Timely Notification

Outside agencies should notify SJCPD when conducting law enforcement activity on college property.
  2. Agency Identification

Identify the agency involved and the lead officer, supervisor, or other primary point of contact.
  3. SJC Police Department

Coordinate with the appropriate SJCPD supervisor or command representative.
  4. Information Sharing

Share appropriate and relevant information necessary to support officer safety, operational awareness, and an effective response.
  5. Jurisdictional Responsibilities

Clarify agency roles, responsibilities, and operational considerations when appropriate.
  6. Disposition and Follow-Up

Communicate relevant information regarding the disposition or outcome of the matter when appropriate.

Planned Operations

For planned operations occurring on College property, coordination with SJCPD should occur in advance whenever reasonably possible. Early communication allows agencies to address operational considerations, campus access, officer safety, jurisdictional responsibilities, and other factors that may affect the successful completion of the operation.

Emergency and Rapidly Evolving Situations

During emergencies or rapidly evolving situations, the immediate priority remains the protection of life and pubLic safety. When advance notification is not practical, SJCPD should be notified as soon as circumstances reasonably permit.

Our commitment

These expectations are intended to promote effective interagency coordination while respecting the lawful authority, jurisdiction, policies, and responsibilities of each agency involved.
SJCPD remains committed to working collaboratively with our law enforcement partners to achieve safe, professional, coordinated, and successful outcomes on San Jacinto College property.
