Rutledge adds 2 more Pitcher of the Year honors to his resume

HOUSTON, Texas — San Jacinto College sophomore pitcher Jackson Rutledge was named the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association and American Baseball Coaches Association Pitcher of the Year.

"Jackson's work ethic, professionalism, and selfless attitude toward the game, the coaches, and his teammates is what sets him apart from most," said San Jacinto College Head Coach Tom Arrington. "He is a player who makes those around him better players and better people. He is a student of the game and works extremely hard to perfect his craft."

After a stellar season at San Jac, Rutledge (St. Louis, Missouri/Rockwood Summit HS/University of Arkansas) was selected by the Washington Nationals as the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. He was the first junior college player selected in this year's draft.

Rutledge was a unanimous overall No. 1 pick for the NJCAA Region XIV all-region team. He recorded one of the best seasons on record at San Jacinto College. His 0.88 ERA led the nation. He went 10-1 for San Jac, with four complete games over 82.2 innings pitched, and he was second in strikeouts across the country with 134 (14.6 per game). Earlier this spring, Rutledge was named the first ever USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award semifinalist from San Jacinto College.
